As part of the continuing St. Louis Scottish Rite Cathedral Performing Arts Series, the Scottish Rite Preservation Committee presents the Cathedral Renovation Fundraising Concert on February 24, 2012 at 7:00pm, featuring world renowned trombonist, Bill Watrous and The Big Little Big Band.
Bill Watrous is one of the finest jazz trombonists of our time, beginning with his tenure as one of the trombonists in Kai Winding’s groups. He was a busy New York-based studio musician during the 1960s, working and recording with Quincy Jones, Maynard Ferguson, Johnny Richards, and Woody Herman; playing in the television band for Merv Griffin’s show; and working on the staff of CBS. After playing with the jazz-rock group Ten Wheel Drive, Watrous led his own big band, the Manhattan Wildlife Refuge, recording two superb albums for Columbia Records. Bill Watrous is a long time Clinician/Artist for Vincent Bach Brass Instruments.
The Big Little Big Band is an eleven-piece jazz ensemble, made up of St. Louis area based professional musicians. They perform the classic sounds of the great big bands like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Stan Kenton, as well as modern arrangements of classic jazz standards. The leader and jazz trumpeter of the ensemble is Scott Vignassi. Scott retired from the USAF Band after 24 years of service, and he has performed with many notable jazz greats, including Sammy Nestico, Arturo Sandoval, Maynard Ferguson, Marvin Stamm, and Toni Tennille.
Tickets are just $20.00 – Adults, $15.00 – Students with Current Student ID, and $25.00 at the door (All Tickets are General Admission).
